Okay forgive the stupid headline, but it fits okay. While America slept, Netherealm Studios revealed it’s latest fighter pack for Injustice 2, and to no surprise both Raiden and Black Manta were revealed to be the latest fighters. However no one foresaw the inclusion of Mike Mignola’s 1993 creation. Read further on for my thoughts on Hellboy joining the fight.
I have to commend Netherealm on how they handled the reveal of Hellboy. If you haven’t seen the trailer, here it is. and it starts of in typical fashion but once you see the Hand of Doom then the jaws began to hit the floor. In fifteen seconds they nailed the attitude for Hellboy, clearly going off Ron Perlman’s performance but I honestly don’t consider that a terrible aspect at all. What does surprise me is that Perlman isn’t doing the voice for Hellboy, because I would have assumed that he would be up for doing voice work for the character again. I have no concrete information as to why Perlman isn’t voicing Hellboy, but it either comes down to money or the developers wanted to use somebody else.
What’s even crazier is how close this version of Hellboy looks to Mike Mignola’s original design for the character. Now don’t me wrong, but as much as I loved how Hellboy looked in live action, I couldn’t shake the fact that he facial structure looked to human. That wouldn’t be a problem except for the fact that he’s a demon from Hell. Kudos to the artists working on Injustice 2 on bringing Mignola’s desing to life. Now that Hellboy has busted down the door, will other comic book characters (not Marvel of course) join the fray? Personally I hope the rumors are true and that Spawn is waiting in the wings, ready to deliver vengeance on the entire Injustice universe. What are your thoughts on Hellboy in Injustice 2?
