In case you haven’t heard, Wolverine is back. However because Marvel loves to draw story lines out, coming later this year Charles Soule and Steve McNiven are on Return of Wolverine and Logan has a new skill to boot. I have a lot of thoughts about this, on a basic note it really irks me that Marvel wants to make this process of Wolverine’s resurrection. Read further on for my thoughts on the latest installment in Wolverine’s return.
Why The New Skill?
Look I understand that certain aspects in comics become trite after several decades of stories. So when the opportunity arises, you as a creator might want to change certain aspects to breathe new life into a character. However, having Logan’s adamantium claws simply heat up once he pops them seems utterly pointless. Wolverine’s claws could already cut through most substances that we know about. Heating up his claws, especially doesn’t do anything different that his normal adamantium claws wouldn’t do. This idea feels like it was ripped right out of the mid 90’s. I’m hoping Charles Soule proves me wrong, but this change is utterly pointless.
The Return Process Is To Drawn Out
I missed Wolverine, there I said it. For as long as I remember Wolverine has been a constant staple of the X-Men, the resident badass of Xavier’s School of The Gifted. While I was perfectly fine with a mini series dedicating to how Logan died and how he comes back. However, his actual “return” starts in September under Charles Soule and Steve McNiven. I know that money is the actual reason as to how Logan reintergates with the current regime of X-Men, it’s almost as if this idea of a story could have been a multi part story. This should have been an arc in either X-Men Red or Blue, not another separate mini series to bookend your “trilogy.” What are your thoughts on Wolverine’s return? Let me know in the comments below!
