Deathstroke is The Villain for Ben Affleck's Solo Batman film.

Shocking the world this week Ben Affleck tweeted a video that show’s off one of the most infamous characters of the DCU will be making his big screen debut against the Dark Knight himself. Is Deathstrok the Terminator the perfect choice to face off against this current iteration of Batman, or is this just another misstep in a long line of missteps within Warner Brothers, when concerning the DCCU.

Debuting in 1980 originally known as the Terminator, Slade Wilson has terrorized the Teen Titans, Batman, and more recently Green Arrow. While some small contingent of fans will say that general audiences don’t know who Deathstroke is and that choosing him over a well established Batman villain is a huge mistake. I’ll make note that Warner Brothers over the past 5 years has made huge attempts to make Deathstroke apart of the public consciousness. Putting Slade in two popular video games (Injustice: Gods Among Us and Batman: Arkham Origins) and of course his television appearance on Arrow as played by Manu Bennett during season 2 of said show. Not to mention that when Affleck tweeted this cryptic video, Deathstroke was trending worldwide. So to any naysayers that believe Deathstroke isn’t well known, you’re hugely mistaken.
While I’m not personally the biggest fan of Deathstroke, I’m glad that we are finally stepping away from Batman’s rogue gallery. That might be sacrilegious to say since Batman’s rogues gallery is considered the greatest in all of comics, but after 9 live action movies starring Batman not to mention the animated features I think it’s safe to assume that the big players have had their time and now would be a good opportunity to showcase a deeper pool of threats that Batman has to deal with. Part of me thinks that Jared Leto’s Joker was originally going to be the villain, but after the mixed reaction of Suicide Squad perhaps Affleck and Warner Brothers had a change of heart.
No actor has been confirmed for the role, and while I doubt this will actually happen as it might confuse the mainstream audience but I would love to see Manu Bennett back as Slade Wilson. He perfectly captured Deathstroke visceral fighting style, but also the cerebral side of Slade. No official release date for the self titled Batman film has been given, but I’m slightly more interested in as this project develops.
