After Tom Holland’s explosive debut as apart of the blockbuster hit, Captain America: Civil War fans of the MCU have been itching to get their hands on anything related to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Spider-Man is a personal favorite of mine and I loved Tom Holland short appearance as Spidey. Let’s see what the trailer has in store for us!
Looking back at the Toby McGuire Spider-Man trilogy earlier this year, it made me regret not seeing a quipping Spider-Man on the big screen. Thankfully Andrew Garfield brought the wise cracking Spider-Man that most people know and love and right at the start of the trailer we continue building upon what Garfield started. You can tell that Tom Holland is having the time of his life by being Spider-Man, which makes sense since for Peter Parker being Spider-Man was a release valve from the day to day pressures of being a teenager in queens. I felt his own enthusiasm coming through my PC monitor, a good sign for Marvel’s newest leading man.
Before I go into more positive territory, I have a minor complaint and that is Tony Stark. I love Robert Downey Junior and I absolutely adored his chemistry with Holland, and I knew that Iron Man would be making a cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming but it seems that based on the trailer he’s going to play a bigger role in story than I initially anticipated. I love that we’re still in a shared universe but I hope Stark’s scenes are limited to a few since this is Spider-Man’s first movie as apart of the MCU.
While we didn’t get a great look at Michael Keaton as Adrian Tomes aka The Vulture I did enjoy the subtle touches to Vulture’s costume in connection to his comic book counter part. It was difficult to tell based on the lighting, but hopefully Vulture’s suit isn’t complete black but rather a dark green and I’ll be honest I’m just excited to see Michael Keaton in a superhero flick again and hopefully this version of Vulture isn’t one dimensional.
Are you ready for Spider-Man: Homecoming this year? What did you think of the first trailer? Let me know in the comments below! One more minor nitpick…the web wings are a bit to big for me. Reminds me of a flying squirrel instead of Spider-Man.
