Now that Iron Fist has made it’s way into millions of homes, the Defenders assemble this August. The first trailer for this highly anticipated series hit the internet and it goes without saying that it many fans jumping for joy, as well as groaning of what become of this “team” of street level heroes. Read further on to hear my thoughts on the first trailer for The Defenders.

Whoever cut this trailer was obviously trying to recreate the original Avengers trailers, seeing various different heroes come together to fight a bigger threat is a novelty that never gets old, and even though I’m currently jaded at the state of Marvel TV seeing Matt Murdock act as Jessica Jone’s lawyer was pretty exhilarating. Even though I absolutely hated Finn Jone as Iron Fist, just seeing him and Michael Coulter on the same screen made my inner comic book fan giddy. On another interesting note, I had suspicion that anything Hand related would be dealt with in Daredevil season 3, but it looks like The Hand and somehow Sigourney Weaver’s character will play into what I presume will be Shadowland.
Given that you already have four characters who will take most of the spotlight, I’m honestly surprised to see supporting characters from each respective series. Except for Jessica Jones’s supporting cast but it’s only the first trailer and there isn’t anything saying Patsy won’t be back but at this point it’s up in the air. One of the bigger problems I’ve had with Marvel on Netflix is the overall lack of connective tissue, so seeing supporting characters show up in Defenders actually makes this street level universe feel united instead of separate entities.
I won’t lie here and say that Iron Fist has killed a lot of anticipation for this series, but there is one thing I wish I didn’t see. Did they have to do another hallway fight? Look I love the hallway fight in the first season of Daredevil, it’s a masterpiece but recreating it over and over again kinda ruins what made it special. Granted this is only a small clip, but it looks clunky and not organic. Are you excited for The Defenders this August? Let me know in the comments below!
