My Top 5 Marvel Cinematic Films

by | Apr 27, 2018

The time has come. In May 2008, Marvel Studios ushered in a bold new era for blockbusters. Now the climax is about to begin. But before we ride the movie of the century, it’s time for some reflection. The following list is my opinion and I do not claim this list to be the definitive list ranking the MCU. In fact I would love to know what your top Five MCU films would be? Read further on for my top five favorite Marvel Cinematic Films.

#5 Doctor Strange

Now this might be the most unpopular choice, at least according to the masses. If you’re not aware, I am a huge Doctor Strange fan. While the film itself follows a basic formula, it still remains a visual wonder. Plus Benedict Cumberbatch embodies what makes Stephen Strange such a engrossing character, his own hubris. I am looking forward to future adventures featuring Doctor Strange. Assuming he doesn’t die in Infinity War.

#4 Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2

Another film that will surely shock many as to why it’s in a Top 5. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 is the personification of what makes Marvel teams great. The Guardians fight, argue, and cry for each other. Some may argue that this weighed the film down, but I say that it was amazing to see this team act like a family and not all families get along. The music cues were also so much better than the first one. Fun fact this is the only MCU film to make cry. That is until Infinity War does something drastic.

#3 Captain America: Winter Soldier

Once again the placing of this film might upset some, this is still one of the best movies made period. I will go so bold as to say that Winter Soldier is Marvel’s Dark Knight. A gripping thriller where you can’t suspect what will happen next. It successfully introduced The Falcon without hurting the main plot of the film. Finally this has the best action sequences to date. Yet you might ask, why is the only #3? Continue on and you shall find out.

#2 Black Panther

I know that some clowns might think is film is high up on my list is because of it’s race. While that statement is not completely untrue, Black Panther was a phenomenal movie from start to finish. Ryan Coogler managed to bring Wakanda to life without making audiences feel overwhelmed. In addition to it’s fantastic world building the characters around T’challa were all amazing and stole the show whenever the Black Panther was missing. WAKANDA FOREVER!

#1 Captain America: Civil War

Was this movie as good as Winter Soldier? On a technical level no it’s a inferior film to Winter Soldier. However this film manages to bring on the big spectacle, yet still render emotional gut punching scenes. In the hands of inferior storytellers, this would have been Avengers 2.5 and while that is true is certain instances the movie still remains a story centered around Steve Rogers. It’s only because of this film that I have full confidence that the Russo Brothers can stick the landing with Infinity War.
Well there you have it ladies and gentlemen, my personal top five MCU films. What are yours? Let me know in the comments below!
